ELYSIAN — ROCHESTER — Minnie Frederick made a pair of free throws with 3.4 seconds remaining in the game to give the Mankat East girls basketball team a 45-44 Big Nine Conference win over Rochester John Marshall on Friday.

Frederick finished with eight points and eight assists. Claire Ziegler led the Cougars with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

East trailed 25-23 at halftime.

The Cougars (16-3 11-1 in Big Nine) will play again Tuesday at Waseca.

West boys 59, Winona 56: Four players reached double figures in scoring for Mankato West in the Big Nine Conference win at Winona.

Austin Majeski led the Scarlets with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jake Dale had a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 14 points.

Ryan Schlichte finished with 11 points and Tyler Stoffel scored 10. Dan Schwartz led Winona with 18 points.

West (11-6, 8-3 in Big Nine) plays again Tuesday at Rochester John Marshall.

RJM 73, East boys 55: Jon Mattison scored 23 points to lead Rochester John Marshall to the Big Nine win at Mankato East.

The Cougars were led by Brandon Adema, who had 15 points and nine rebounds. Yasin Omar scored 11 points.

The Rockets led 42-24 at halftime.

East (4-15) hosts Albert Lea Thursday.
