West boys advance to Section 1A finals

ROCHESTER — Four Mankato West players scored goals on Saturday in a 4-2 boys hockey win over New Prague. The win came in the semifinals of the Section 1A tournament at the Rochester Recreation Center.

All of the scoring came in the third period. Max Mettler led the Scarlets with a power-play goal and two assists.

Nick Campbell and Derek Frentz also had power-play goals and each had assists. Zach Erickson scored once while Scott McKissick had two assists.

Cody Meyer scored both of New Prague’s goals — one short-handed and one on a power-play.

Jake Spiess made 35 saves for the Scarlets to get the win. Evan Bisek took the loss with 27 saves.

West now advances to the section title game where it will meet Rochester Lourdes on Wednesday in Rochester.
