‘The Kisio Cup’: The sibling rivalry behind the Maverick rivalry

By Shane Frederick
The Free Press

Kurtis had an assist in that game and has one goal and three assists all-time against Omaha. Brent has the one goal against Minnesota State.

Some fans have dubbed the traveling trophy that goes to the winner of the annual nonconference series the Kisio Cup.

“I’ve never heard that before,” Kurtis said. “That’s a good name, though.”

It’s certainly catchier.

But the trophy’s Kisio era will come to an end Jan. 16 when the two Maverick teams wrap up this season’s series.

That will certainly be another week that’s highlighted on the Kisios’ calendars.
