The 10-Under Mankato Peppers Blue girls fastpitch team recently took first place in the NAFA (North American Fastpitch Association) Nationals Tournament.
The tournament was held in White Bear Lake and the Peppers went undefeated in the competition. They allowed just six runs the entire weekend.
Their opponents were Chaska, Stillwater, Anoka Ramsey, Edina, and Soderville (twice). The Peppers defeated Soderville 6-5 in the championship game.
The national championship leaves the Peppers with a final season record of 37-4-1.
U-12 Girls Soccer
Earlier this week the Mankato United U-12, Classic 3 girls soccer won the state championship with a victory over CC United from Chaska/Chanhassen.
With seconds remaining in regulation, CC United scored to tie the game at 2. After playing two five-minute overtime periods the game went to a shoot out. Mankato goalie Haley Hughes stopped 3 of the 5 CC United shots.
Mankato players Briget Brown, Taylor Kuechle put their shots in net and the winning goal was scored by Maddie Kleschult on the final shot attempt. This is believed to be the first state championship for a girls team in Mankato United club history.
Royals 10AA baseball
The Mankato Royals 10AA Gold baseball team won the Minnesota Sports Federation State Tournament over the weekend.
The Royals knocked off Eastview 5-3 in the title game which took place at Rosemount.
