Winona State starts quick, dumps Augustana

MANKATO —  

Winona State shot 70 percent in the first half, building a 51-29 halftime lead and coasting to a 77-65 victory over Augustana in the semifinals of the Central Region men's basketball tournament Sunday at Bresnan Arena.

Taylor Cameron, a junior, scored a career-high 25 points with six rebounds, and Clayton Vette scored 20. Grant Johnson added 19 points. Winona State ended up shooting 54.9 percent for the game.

Cameron McCaffrey scored 24 points with seven assists for Augustana, which shot 52.2 percent, and Alex Richter scored 12.

Winona State (26-7) takes on Minnesota State or Harding in the region championship game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bresnan Arena.
