Gun alert issued at U of M, then lifted

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Officials at the University of Minnesota sent a text alert warning students about a man armed with a gun after an attempted robbery on campus and lifted the alert a few hours later.

The Star Tribune ( ) reports the man was seen at Anderson Hall on the West Bank of the Minneapolis campus.

A university spokesman says a gunman tried to rob a student. There were no shots fired. No one was hurt.

People on the West Bank campus were asked to seek shelter.

Campus police say they are searching for a man with a gun. The man is described as black, 20 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a black, puffy, hooded jacket.

The alert was sent at 3:20 p.m. Monday.
