St. Peter being considered as a store site by big-box chain

St. Peter officials say a big-box retailer may be coming to town.

The name of the retailer hasn’t been disclosed and the proposed size of the store has varied, said St. Peter Economic Development Director Russ Wille.

He said the location is on the north end of town west of McDonald’s on Old Minnesota Street, which runs parallel and just west of Highway 169.

The site is owned by Northern Con-Agg, which has about 14 acres in the area, which was formally mined for gravel.

Wille said if the project moves along, Con-Agg would file to have the area replatted. The area — part of the former Traverse des Sioux townsite — is zoned for highway-commercial use, but it is platted in small lots that would have to be modified for a larger project.
