ST. PETER — Area residents and business people may attend an informational meeting regarding the potential impacts of a construction project on Highway 169 at the north end of St. Peter. The meeting is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Senior Center in the St. Peter Community Center.
Staff from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the City of Saint Peter will be available to review the construction staging, detours and temporary accesses. Construction on Highway 169 — from Union Street in St. Peter to Le Sueur — is scheduled for May through November 2014.
In St. Peter, the project includes making safety improvements at intersections along Highway 169 in 2014. The intersections with St. Julien Street and Highway 22 are targeted for revisions because they have above average crash rates. Safety improvements are also planned that impact intersections with Union Street, Ritt Street and Dranttel Street.
The work north of St. Peter includes resurfacing the southbound lanes of Highway 169 and raising two miles of flood-prone roadway.
MnDOT has similar plans for Highway 169 from Mankato to St. Peter in 2016.
