Bertrand “Bert” Jerome Blom, age 87, of Bricelyn, MN, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Albert Lea Medical Center, Albert Lea, MN. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church in Brush Creek Twp, Faribault Co., MN. Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2008 from 4:00-7:30 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Pastor Ed Nieman will officiate and burial will be in the North Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery, Brush Creek Township, Faribault County, MN.

Bert Blom was born February 8, 1920 in Seely Township, Faribault County, MN, the son of Ben and Johanna (Mork) Blom. He was confirmed at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church and graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1938. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Agriculture and continued with a lifelong career as a farmer near Brush Creek. Bert married Marjorie Monson on July 8, 1951 at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church. He served various positions on the North Blue Earth Church Council and was a member on the Bricelyn Elevator Association Board. He also served as Brush Creek Township Board Treasurer. He raised purebred Shorthorn cattle for a number of years. Bert enjoyed time spent with family and friends, and coffee times at Brush Creek.

He is survived by three sons: Paul (Marsha) Blom and Morris Blom of Bricelyn, MN and Bryan (Tammy) Blom of Byron, MN; 5 grandchildren, Melanie (Victor) Ferris of Minneapolis, Mark Blom of Bricelyn, MN; Megan (Nathan) Eitzmann of Hardy, NE, and Andrea and Kristin Blom of Byron, MN; one sister, Sylvia Wulff of Albert Lea, MN; one brother-in-law, Gene Monson of Portland, OR; and 2 nephews, Roger (Lynette) Brooks of Okemos, MI, and David Brooks of Bricelyn, MN.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Blom; parents, Ben and Johanna Blom; one sister, Cassandra Blom; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ila and Ivan Brooks. Memorials preferred to North Blue Earth Lutheran Church or to the Bricelyn Rescue Squad.
