Leonard Kline, 83, of Elysian, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 6, 2009, at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.

Born July 24, 1925, Leonard was the son of Jake and Anna (Chalupnicek) Kline. Growing up, he attended school in Elysian. Following his graduation he was recognized by “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” as a pupil that never missed a single hour of school. He served with the United States Army during WWII, and was married to Margaret Hayes on August 13, 1949. Over the years, he was employed with the State of Minnesota doing road construction, at Birds Eye Foods, and as a custodian at the elementary school in Elysian. Leonard lived in Elysian all of his life, and will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor that always had a smart answer for everyone. He loved to be outside, and for years he collected aluminum cans, took long walks, and worked part-time with the city of Elysian at the compost facility.

Leonard is survived by four children, Sheila (Curt) Christianson of Owatonna, Sonja Savage of Wells, Leonard J. Kline of Elysian, and Karl (Amy) Kline of Elysian; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; and one son, Mark Kline.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home on Monday, March 9, 2009, from 4-6 p.m.
