Dramatic video showed a man hanging on to a corrugated concrete shear wall, to keep from being swept into the Los Angeles River on Wednesday, as water from the storms pounding California rushes beneath him. A KABC/ABC7 Los Angeles helicopter captured the images of a Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) helicopter lowering a firefighter to the river. The firefighter reached the man and hooked him to a device before the two were lifted together to the helicopter. A statement from the LAFD says the man was taken to a hospital after suffering the effects of hypothermia. No other injuries were immediately found. The statement said it was not immediately known how the man wound up in the river.
