A truck cab caught on fire after a high speed chase north of Los Angeles on Thursday. California Highway Patrol units began pursuing the truck cab, which was reported stolen from Kern County, on Thursday afternoon in the Gorman area. The driver refused to yield to authorities and fled at slow speeds on the Golden State Freeway into Castaic in northwest Los Angeles County. At one point the truck cab drove over a spike strip. The front tires of the truck eventually fell off the rims, which began sparking against the asphalt of the freeway. The truck burst into flames near Lake Hughes Road. Video from the scene showed the driver stopping, exiting the vehicle, and surrendering to California Highway Patrol officers. KABC-TV reported that Los Angeles County firefighters put out the flames.
