VINE offering volunteer orientation

MANKATO — Vine Faith in Action will hold two volunteer orientations this summer.

The first takes place at 10-11:30 a.m. today at the VINE office, 421 E. Hickory St. The second takes place 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Orientation attendance is a mandatory first step to volunteering for many opportunities at VINE.

New Ulm holds Bavarian Blast

NEW ULM — New Ulm’s Bavarian Blast, a German and American music festival, takes place from today through Sunday.

Now in its 14th year, performances this year include: Heide & The Good Ole Boys; Squeezebox with Mollie B., I Am, Big Top Radio, Wild Angels, The Bockfest Boys, The Original German Band and more.

Other activities include a sauerkraut-eating contest, stein-holding competition, barrel rolling, bounce houses for children, dog races, a 5K/10K parade, food and souvenir vendors.

Four-day event passes are available for $65. Weekend passes to the festival (Fri-Sun) are $35. Daily admission is as follows: $35 Thursday, $25 Friday, $15 Saturday, $10 Sunday.

A limited supply of Bavarian Blast buttons are for sale at the New Ulm Visitor Center, 1 N. Minnesota St., for $5 and include free Sunday admission.

Cribbage tourney at Wow! Zone

MANKATO — A cribbage tournament will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wow! Zone, 2030 Adams St.

Entry fee is $5 with seven games guaranteed. Proceeds will go to the winners.

Rockin’ on the Hill outdoor festival

MANKATO — The Rockin’ on the Hill summer music festival will kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday on Good Counsel Hill, 145 Good Counsel Drive.

The event will include music from Time Machine and Pop ROCKS, a live music show that features every genre of hit music.

Food trucks including Lola’s, Pizzeria 201, On Every Corner, Grandpa’s Concessions and Frozen Yogurt Creations will be in attendance. Mankato Brewery will create their lemonade rhubarb beer exclusively for Rockin’ on the Hill.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Gates Open at 5 p.m.; Time Machine takes the stage at 5:30 p.m. with Pop ROCKS following at 8 p.m..

Tickets are $10 in advance at any Mankato Hy-Vee or Cub locations or $15 at the gate. Children 13 and under are free but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Mayo offering physical clinic

MANKATO — Mayo Clinic Health System is hosting a walk-in sports physical clinic from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Madison East Center, 1400 Madison Ave.

Student athletes can stop by and receive a Minnesota State High School League pre-participation physical for $20 from Mayo Clinic experts.

The event is open to all, regardless of whether or not you’re a Mayo Clinic Health System patient. Students who wear corrective lenses are required to wear them during their examination.
