Mankato East High School junior Aliya Mukamuri will appear on reality TV show “American Idol."

The announcement came through her Facebook and Instagram accounts Feb. 28 stating that she'd auditioned for “American Idol," and included a photo of Mukamuri standing on the iconic “American Idol” floor logo.

Mukamuri is a singer, actress and model. In 2017, she was crowned Miss Mankato’s Outstanding Teen for the year of 2018. She has also been featured on “The Wiz” in the Penumbra Theatre and the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Musical” at the Children’s Theatre Company, both in Minneapolis.

In 2018, Mukamuri was also a finalist in National YoungArts Week in the Popular Voice discipline, performing Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope.”

“American Idol” debuted in 2002 and has featured winners such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Phillip Phillips.
