MANKATO — After speaking ahead of the 2014 Mankato Marathon, Dick Beardsley will return as keynote speaker for the 2018 race.
The longtime runner, who famously finished a close second in the 1982 Boston Marathon, overcame an addiction to painkillers to become a leading coach, running camp organizer and motivational speaker in retirement.
Beardsley’s speech will be Oct. 20 as part of the Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic Speaker Series. The marathon, presented by Mayo Clinic Health System, will take place the next day.
“Dick has been an inspiration for Expo attendees and Mankato Marathon runners in the past, and we are thrilled he will be returning for the 2018 Speaker Series,” said Anna Thill, Visit Mankato president, in a release.
