The smell of pulled pork sandwiches and the sounds of guitars and harmonicas playing blues music took over two blocks of Belgrade Avenue in North Mankato during the Blues on Belgrade festival Saturday.

Children’s activities and craft vendors dotted the street as music from bands like Billy and the Bangers and Boom Boom Steve V and the Knockouts drifted down the street. Hundreds of blues fans braved the hot pavement and blistering Sun to listen to the music, while others took refuge in tents in the parking lots of Belgrade Avenue businesses.

The free event, now in its third year, was started by Business on Belgrade Association and the City of North Mankato to draw attention to Belgrade Avenue businesses.
