There’s no city of Lake Washington, but on the evening of July 3, the lakeshore home of Don and Carrie Pearson turns into something very much like a town square.

Every year, the Pearsons, better known as Duck and Rooney, invite a few hundred family, friends and neighbors onto their property for food, drinks and one of the largest private fireworks displays in south-central Minnesota.

There’s no ticket gate or wristband, no one questioning visitors as to whether they belong or not.
