MADELIA — A fleeing theft suspect allegedly threw stolen property at a Madelia police officer after his car got stuck in a muddy park.

An officer stopped Christopher O'Brien Jones, 23, of Madelia, for driving without a license Thursday afternoon. Jones was uncooperative, walked away from the officer and then ran back to his car and sped away, a court complaint said.

A brief pursuit ended when Jones went off the road and got stuck in mud at Watona Park.

Meanwhile, the officer learned Jones was suspected in a theft earlier that day in Mankato. Jones reportedly then began throwing suspected stolen goods at the officer.

After Jones was subdued with a stun gun, more suspected stolen property was found in his car.

Jones was charged with felony fleeing police in a vehicle and misdemeanor counts of fleeing on foot and obstructing the legal process Friday in Watonwan County District Court. No theft-related charges have yet been filed in Blue Earth County.
