JANESVILLE — A Main Street laundromat’s brick wall collapsed Wednesday afternoon in Janesville, though no one was hurt.
“It sounded like loud thunder,” said Jim Fury, a clerk at the Janesville post office, which is next door to the laundromat. “I thought a truck had come through and hit the building because it shook.”
The Free Press was unable to reach the business’ owner, but there didn’t appear to be any obvious reason for the collapse. Bricks were strewn over the sidewalk and the business was closed by Thursday afternoon.
The pile of bricks is leaning on the post office's wall, but it didn’t appear to be damaged.
Fury said the wall collapsed at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Chief Dave Ulmen said a local construction company is clearing the debris.
