BLUE EARTH — Another teenager has been sentenced in the assault on a fellow member of the Blue Earth Area High School football team in 2017.

Wyatt Eugene Tungland, 19, of Frost, was convicted of felony assault Tuesday in Faribault County District Court. Two other charges were dismissed in a plea deal reached in April.

Tungland and three other teens were accused of holding down and assaulting a teammate during a house party in October 2017 in Winnebago. The 16-year-old male victim had a serious concussion.

The felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor if Tungland completes the terms of his sentence.

Tungland spent nine days in jail after the assault. He was ordered to spend an additional four days behind bars.

He also must complete 40 hours of community service, attend an anger management program and spend five years on probation. He must pay a $1,000 fine and to-be-determined restitution to the victim's family.

At least two other assailants also pleaded guilty and have been sentenced. Dalten Lee Nagel, 19, of Frost, received the same sentence as Tungland.

Blake Barnett, formerly of Blue Earth, was charged in juvenile court because he was 17 when he was charged. He received community service and probation but no jail time.

The status of the fourth suspect is not public because he was younger than 16 years old when charged.
