WASECA — The Waseca County recycling facility was destroyed by a fire Wednesday morning.
The fire in the recycling area of the Waseca County Solid Waste Facility on Highway 13 was reported just before 7:20 a.m. The building was occupied, but employees escaped without injury, County Administrator Jessica Beyer said.
Firefighters from five departments battled the blaze and were still on scene as of late Wednesday afternoon. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause.
The facility, which accepts waste and recyclable materials from county residents, is closed indefinitely.
Beyer said the county is working on a plan for alternative disposal services. Updates will be posted on the county website.
