MANKATO — A large welcoming event will be held for the Minnesota Vikings Saturday in honor of the first day of training camp.

It will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Minnesota State University, by Memorial Library. Visitors can park in Lot 4 for what Visit Mankato says may be the best opportunity to score a Vikings autograph all summer.

Fans also will have the opportunity to meet Vikings cheerleaders, play games, receive give-a-ways and enjoy food, beverages and treats. Radio Mankato will provide music and entertainment.

Fans are encouraged to wear purple and gold. Commemorative T-shirts will be available for purchase.

In another grass-roots effort to show the Vikings support, local businesses are encouraged to compete in a Vikings Spirit Contest. Businesses entered into the contest will be judged by the amount of Vikings spirit demonstrated in their workplace.

The top five Vikings Spirit Contest finalists will be judged by Viktor the Viking and the winner will be awarded autographed Vikings memorabilia, as well as a pizza party for 20 at Jake’s Stadium Pizza.
