We, the local unit of the DFL in Nicollet County, express our collective disappointment at the veiled attempt by Congressional District 1 Rep. Jim Hagedorn to hold a so-called “town hall” for our county on June 13.
This one-hour “town hall” was held at 1:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon during common working hours without prior notification to his constituents. Invitations were extended via robo-call to selected constituents beginning at 1:30 p.m., so many received the robo-call after the “town hall” began or was already over.
Rep. Hagedorn publicly stated he will be holding town halls in all 21 counties in his district. He is disingenuous to consider this telephone “town hall” as the one for Nicollet County.
In fact, constituents from surrounding counties, including several Republican state representatives from Minnesota, were on the call, and asked questions. We note that DFL state Rep. Jeff Brand (District 19A-Nicollet County) was not invited to participate.
Rather than answering all submitted questions, Rep. Hagedorn spent considerable time on his talking points, echoing those in his newsletter and social media posts, giving the impression that he answered questions that only pertained to his issues, rather than those of concern to his constituents.
In addition, several questions included blatantly false or misleading information, which he failed to correct, thus implying his tacit agreement.
In closing, we request the opportunity to hold thoughtful and respectful dialogue with Rep. Hagedorn through an in-person, advance-notice town hall held in Nicollet County.
