Rep. James Hagedorn wrote in a Free Press editorial on April 28 that he could "assure us that he understands the critical importance of expanding trade opportunities making a great deal with China."

On May 3, Mr. Trump threatened to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods. I am sorry, Mr. Hagedorn, but I don't feel at all assured that Mr. Trump is going break down trade barriers to give relief to our farmers. I urge you to emphasize to Mr. Trump how his trade policies are hurting our farmers.
