I read the Your View letter from Theresa Hartenstein, Mankato postmaster, in Sunday’s Free Press expressing “Postal workers appreciate those who clear approaches.” In the same issue was an article titled “Reminder: Keep mailbox path clear.”

Yeah. Right. Ludicrous.

I keep the mailbox path clear and what happens? The postal carrier bypasses the cleared walkway in favor of creating his/her own path through snow (anywhere from ankle to knee-deep) between houses.

The postmaster says carriers “can’t risk getting injured while trudging through knee-deep snow.”

Perhaps it’s not the postal patrons but the postal carriers who need admonition.
