Last weekend, we brought our U-10 girls hockey team to Waseca for a tournament. After winning our first game, we were paired against the Mankato U-10 team, and were thoroughly beaten by a better team.

The following day, our girls were playing for third place. My daughter was in goal, and during the whole game she was cheered on by the Mankato team. Their cheers inspired her and gave her a wonderful example of what good sportsmanship is all about.

I was extremely impressed by how well these girls acted, presented themselves and cheered for a team that they had beaten. My daughter insisted on poking her head in their locker room prior to their game and wishing them luck. It was a great lesson on how good sportsmanship and kindness is contagious — a wonderful lesson for the Christmas season and beyond.

If these kids are our future leaders, I think we are in pretty good shape.

Good job parents — you are doing a fantastic job — your coaches are doing pretty well, too.
