It seems odd with all the focus on economic recovery that so little mention is made of fuel prices. It seems clear the economic disaster started with increasing fuel prices. The auto industry, RV industry, tourism, and every product we purchase were significantly impacted with unbelievable increases in fuel prices.
Recent return to somewhat normal fuel prices did not cause a desperate plea from the petroleum industry for bail-out funds so it appears they can actually survive on a reasonable return on their investment.
Is it possible for the U.S. government to establish price controls for fuel just like other utilities have? Take fuel prices out of the hands of speculators.
I’m well aware we need to focus on fuel alternatives but we need to also look at a quick fix. If we were assured fuel prices would remain reasonable, we would again be able to buy any vehicle we choose, stimulate every industry involved with transportation, plan vacations, and revive many other industries near collapse due to fuel prices out of control.
