I am willing to bet the $30 billion that banks generated in overdraft fees last year (“Overdraft fees still surprise consumers” May 13 Free Press) would have gone a long way in helping local economies, perhaps even saving a job or two, had consumers been able to spend that money themselves for goods and services.

 I’ve been told by some that tax breaks stimulate the economy. I wonder what overdraft fee breaks would do?
