For the fourth consecutive season, the Mankato West boys basketball team reached the championship game of the Section 2AA tournament, and four of its players were honored Monday at the Elks-KTOE-Pepsi all-city banquet at Maggie’s.

West senior Bryce Brunz set a school single-season record with 642 points, averaging 22.9 this season, third-best in program history. He also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He made 71 3-pointers, shooting 38.5 percent from that range, and he shot 83.0 percent at the free-throw line.

J.J. Cattrysse, a senior, usually drew West’s toughest defensive assignment. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds.

West sophomore Aaron Richter averaged 7.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals, shooting 52.3 percent from the field.

Mike Richter, Aaron’s twin brother, averaged 7.6 points and 4.2 rebounds. He shot 56.6 percent from the field.

East senior Mike Olafson averaged 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds. He also averaged 3.4 assists with a team-high 23 blocked shots.

Ethan Welter, a senior, started 11 of 27 games, scoring 8.3 points and getting 5.2 rebounds. He shot 52.8 percent from the field, including 9 of 22 from 3-point range.

Jordan Cunningham, a junior, averaged 16.0 points, shooting 46.0 percent from the field. He set an East single-season school record with 78 3-pointers and made 40 percent of his attempts. He also had 3.1 rebounds and led the team with 35 steals.

Loyola senior Bob Beadell averaged 15.2 points, shooting 44 percent from the field and 73.0 percent at the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds.

Senior Emily Stenzel led the West girls in scoring at 12.0 points per game, shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 67.7 percent from the free-throw line. She also averaged 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 steals.

West senior Joey Pipal averaged 5.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

Megan Duffee, a senior, was the Scarlets’ top defender. She scored 3.1 points per game and averaged 2.6 rebounds.

Abby Rothenbuehler, a sophomore, averaged 9.7 points, shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 70.9 percent on free throws. She led the Scarlets with 7.3 rebounds per game and 59 blocked shots.

East senior Katie VanDuynhoven, who has signed with Augustana, averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds. She shot 44.0 percent from the field and 68.5 percent at the free-throw line.

Megan Lundgren, a senior, averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.9 steals for the Cougars.

Loyola junior Nicki Menke led the team with 9.3 points per game. She also had 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

Meghan Kelly, a junior, led the Crusaders with 7.6 rebounds. She scored 7.4 points and made 1.6 steals per game.
