Maggie Fischer and Shera Vis scored two goals apiece Sunday to lift Minnesota State University to a 5-1 victory over North Dakota in WCHA women’s hockey.

The Mavericks were outshot 36-31 but still jumped to a 4-0 lead midway through the second period. Kristina Bunker’s power-play goal started the MSU scoring as Jen Jonsson and Autumn Conway each had assists.

Fischer added another goal prior to the first break before Vis scored twice in the second period. Vis’ first score was assisted by Noelle Needham and the second came on a penalty shot.

North Dakota’s Devon Fingland made it 4-1 at 12:59 of the third but Fischer capped the scoring a minute later with a goal that was set up by Sammy Miller’s pass.

Britini Kehler got the win, stopping 35 shots. Amber Hasbargen took the loss.

The win improves MSU to 11-12-3 overall and 8-10-2 in the WCHA. North Dakota drops to 6-18-2 and 2-16-2.

The Mavericks are back in action Friday at the University of Minnesota. Game time is 7:07 p.m. at Ridder Arena.
